Originating in the early 1980s in Kingston Jamaica, this music arose out of a shift to the prevalence of conscious reggae. First, it was marked by selectors toasting over reggae riddims, soon progressing into a unique mix of electronic sounds, driving beats, and frequently provocative lyrics. The sound underwent further development with the arrival
